Google Sheets Reflection

What my graph shows is the standard deviation from test#1 to test#5. My graph shows that the students were improving as the testing went on throughout the year. Standard deviation is helpful in tracking progress. You can see if there is improvement or regression. It will be a helpful tool in tracking students in my class.

Graph of Standard Deviation

OTES!!!

The standard of digital citizenship is an important one. As teachers we need to educate of children on how to appropriately use technology. One way I can help my students as a teacher is give them the tools they need to be responsible. Since there is so much at their finger tips it's important to demonstrate how to use all of this technology in a responsible manner. I will show examples of good web pages and one's that are not safe. As a teacher I can educate students so they can make good decisions about their websites. Websites such as Facebook or Blogger are great sites for students to socialize and collaborate. I will encourage my students to join these sites and I will show them how to use them in a ethical, legal, safe and responsible manner.

Another standard that students are required to meet is being able to communicate and collaborate with others using technology. I think this connection is an important part of social and technological development for children. When students use Facebook or Myspace they are able to collaborate and communicate with other students. Also using programs such as Tokbok, Skype and blogger; students are able to work on class projects and collaborate to get assignments done. All of these programs allow students to instantly connect with one another and in a way they will enjoy. Students also don't have to worry about location as everyone can meet no matter where they reside. These forms of communication are invaluable in the classroom. Students and teachers can benefit from this technology.

I feel that both of these standards are important and relevant to our students. As educators being aware of the technology our students are using will help use to connect with our students. Through this technology we can foster responsibility and creativity in our students and classroom!

Skype

I used Skype for the first time last week and I loved it! It was easy to use and easy to setup. We used Skype to work on our Web 2.0 presentation and it worked marvelously. We were able to edit our presentation and talk about what we were doing at the same time. Skype was nice because there was no delay and we were able to do a three was conference call. We were able to get work done as if we were there in person and this was useful because we had busy schedules. Overall I had a good experience and I plan on using it in the future!

Google Sites

Well Google sites was easy to use for the most part. We had some trouble with the live and edit mode. They tended not to look the same so we had to do a lot of editing. This would be a great tool in the classroom because you can use it as a class website. You could use Google Sites to create a class website where you can post homework assignments, class events, grades and any class information. This will be great when I start teaching because it is a way for my students to be up to date with class happenings. My students who miss class can get caught up before the next class. My students will love this and I will enjoy keeping in touch with them!

Web 2.0 Tools

Facebook is a social networking site designed for people to connect and share. Facebook would be helpful in my classroom because I could create an account that is just for my class to look at. They could view class updates and have a chance to connect with other students in class. This would be great because the students can get help from one another, post questions, set up study groups and make friends outside of class. The other fantastic thing about using facebook in the classroom is that so many students already know how to use it! Most young people love social networking sites and spend numerous hours on them. I think it would be a great tool in the classroom. The other tool I found to be useful in my classroom is youtube. Youtube is a website where you can broadcast yourself to the world. You can create videos and publish them so everyone can see them. Since I am teaching PE I think this will be a useful demonstration tool for my students. I can post techniques and show examples of movements they are learning. I can walk them through step by step what to do and have a video to further help them understand. For PE I think this will be helpful because some movements are hard to describe in words and can more easily demonstrated through video. Both of these tools will be helpful in my subject area!
